Milk + Honey Book Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I just decided to start posting book reviews.

I already do it for myself every time I finish a book, so why not share it with you guys?

I am super late hopping on this train, but I just finished Milk + Honey by Rupi Kaur, and wow.

It is really good. If you are on the fence, or never got around to it like me, let me tell you concretely - it is completely worth ALL the hype it received.

This is the first poetry book I've read probably since elementary school.

Yes, there were poems in high school literature class, but I have zero recollection of what they were. I do remember poems like Dr. Suess and poem books from childhood.

This is my first poem book meant for adults, and damn does it cut deep.

I highly HIGHLY recommend it. If you are someone who likes to be in their feels, be prepared to cry. If you are not (like me), you will need to stop at some point to keep the tears from falling.

Did you know that the author is Canadian and attended Waterloo University? Me neither. That makes me feel closer to the words she writes, even though it shouldn't matter (I'm Canadian btw).

As someone who does not like to be in her feels often, this book made me want to be in my feels.

The first 3 chapters are quite intense, depending on where your mind wanders. Mine went to childhood, my upbringing, family relationships (or lack thereof), ex-boyfriends, and lots of self-reflection on who I am, and how I became the way I am today.

The last section fresh in my mind is called 'healing'. It made me feel capable. It was empowering as hell, and made me so excited and proud to be a woman. It reminded me why I'm vegan, how much I feel connected to Mother Earth, and how much that part of me is hidden away in day-to-day life.

I want to be with nature, in nature. But I also want success, and money, and nice things. Are those mutually exclusive? No. But, it does feel contradictory at some level.

Does anyone else feel this way too? Let me know in my Instagram DMs!
