4 places to get free workout classes for at home workouts

Updated: Feb 7, 2021

Many of us are stuck at home literally 24/7 these days, and working out can feel so daunting, especially when you're steps away from the couch. I use to be a loyal gym member and exclusively worked out at the gym. Now that I have discovered so many ways to work out effectively without one, I want to share these free resources with you!

Getting bored of the same workouts was something I struggled with when I first transitioned to working out at home, so mixing things up is key.

I want to share 4 ideas on how to successfully workout at home consistently, and feel motivated to finally put on those leggings and do some jumping jacks in your living room.

1. Instagram Live workouts

Instagram Lives are great if you like going to workout classes and are motivated by working out with others. Instagram Live workouts I've attended are usually hosted by the instructor and trainee, but sometimes it's just the instructor speaking to the camera as if in a real-life class. Instagram Live workouts are great because the instructor can talk you through the movements and keep you motivated.

The current channel I follow religiously is @TrainWithDanny. He is based in Los Angeles and trains many content creators I follow, so I know his workouts are legit.

2. Zoom workout classes with friends

I have a friend who is a zumba instructor at her university, so I've been joining in on her zumba classes on vimeo for free. This can be something more fun and light hearted, and an easy way to move your body.

It's a great way to workout and also spend time with your friends! If you don't have a fitness instructor as a friend like me, you can setup a zoom workout session with a couple friends and do a workout class together!

3. Youtube

A no brainer. There is a HUGE range of workout classes and focus areas, you can find exactly what you want, from HIIT to yoga to cardio circuits. My favourite videos are by @ChloeTing and this specific @POPSUGARFitness class!

4. NTC/NRC apps

Saving the best for last - the Nike Training Club and Nike Run Club apps.

I started using these apps when quarantine started and was trying everything available to me to keep the at home workouts interesting and fun.

Without much prior knowledge about NTC, a headline announcing that Nike is making their NTC/NRC free for users due to the pandemic was enough for me to try it out.

Android

I never used a workout app before and was skeptical. I saw influencers I follow such as @cococuenco, @ellenvlora, and @theseoulsearch use the apps and I wanted to see for myself if it was a good fit.

As written in another blogpost that I am an INTJ, I love schedules and routine. So - to no surprise - I absolutely love the NTC/NRC app. What initially started as a way to get me to run more frequently, expanded to an entire workout routine solely using these free apps! Not to mention, they are downloadable for offline use, so you can take the workouts with you outside!

Both apps are great for tracking progress and keeping you on a schedule, and can be used independently or together. If you choose to start a workout plan, they are completely customizable and tailored to your metrics and targets.

Nike Training Club and Nike Run Club are great to use in unison to switch up your workouts, and keeping your body moving in different ways - I highly recommend!!!
