YouTubers to watch: food edition

Let me ask you a question: do you like to cook?

I always considered myself a lazy chef. I love food, and I love to eat - but cooking? Not my favourite. However, I've definitely learned to appreciate the act of cooking more during the pandemic. Now, I love trying new (and easy) recipes and new flavours.

So, if you haven't read my first post on this blog series 'YouTubers to watch' - where I list my top 5 YouTube channels to watch in a specific category - definitely check out the top 5 lifestyle YouTubers here.

Okay, back to food.

If you haven't gone down the rabbit hole of food YouTube channels yet, this is a great starting point to get you inspired and excited about food. *Warning: do not watch when hangry 😉

*Disclaimer: I'm a 24-year-old Millennial/Gen Z living in Vancouver, Canada trying to make it as a micro-influencer. I care about animals, the planet, and enjoying everyday life. I am vegan, though that doesn't mean all the channels I'm recommending are vegan food channels.

With over a decade under my belt of being an avid YouTube consumer, I feel confident in telling you that these are the food YouTubers you should know about today.

After the controversy that arose at Bon Appetit, many of their best-known chefs left the company and started their own YouTube channels, one of which is Claire Saffitz. Claire is such a tightly wound bundle of joy. If you like to watch people bake, this is the show for you (plus you get to support individual creators)!

In a similar vein, About To Eat is created by a group of ex-BuzzFeed personalities, including Andrew, Rie, Inga, Adam, and more. I especially love Rie and Andrew's dynamic, and the series where Andrew cooks a bunch of one ingredient in multiple ways - like this one where he cooks 25 pounds of potatoes

Personally, I love Remy not just aesthetically, but also as a human 'bean' (this is what she calls her subscribers). I very much appreciate her personal branding, openness with her subscribers, and approach to advocating for the vegan lifestyle. Definitely check her out if you want a mix of recipes, lifestyle, and vlog content.

An oldie but a goodie, Hot for Food is one of the first vegan YouTube channels I discovered back in the day that I still vibe with many years later. Created by Lauren Toyota - ex-TV host personality - Lauren's casual tone in all her videos make vegan cooking approachable and low-key.

To be honest, I subscribed to this channel mainly to watch Sohla El-Waylly Sohla is another ex-Bon Appetit chef, and her energy is so infectious and delightful. These videos are for entertainment purposes only, I don't think I've ever attempted any of these recipes. They're just fun to watch.

Whether you're looking for delicious new recipes to try or just enjoy watching people make food, these channels are sure to satisfy your digital taste buds.

(P.S. I secretly started a YouTube channel. Check it out here.)
